- Langdon is the population centroid for Rocky View Division 4.
- Langdon is one of the youngest and fastest growing communities in Alberta.

- Langdon is lacking a true community centre around which to build the future of our Hamlet.
"Ultimately, what influences where and when recreation amenities are built?"
- How fast ANY facility is constructed in Langdon, Indus or elsewhere depends on many factors, including:
+ COMMUNITY SUPPORT
+ Obtaining proper development permits
+ Governmental support at various levels
+ Funding

"Why include ice when we already have a facility in Indus?"
- The Indus facility has served the community well to this point. However, we are at a cross-roads where a new sheet of ice is required based on demand - the existing facility is about ~30% over capacity and a 2nd sheet of ice will be at ~70% capacity by 2025.
- The facts are that no matter where a facility is built, it will be a NEW stand-alone facility.
- The NEED for an ice rink presents a generational opportunity to build a COMMUNITY HUB facility.
- The LRC believes that a new facility should be located in Langdon, because that is where the population resides and where a facility will serve maximum public benefit due to accessibility, usage, social and economic impact to Rocky View County.
- With an ice rink as a community hub, many more amenities can be brought to Langdon in a shorter time frame.
"What is the timeline for these facilities to be completed?"
- Our goal is to have facilities operational by the Fall, 2021. There are many variables which will influence timing, such as Governmental approvals and funding. The more we all support this project, the quicker it will become reality!
"Will the population of Langdon support a Recreation Centre?"
- YES!
- Langdon is a "Growth Node" as identified in the Rocky View County Plan (2013)
+ Current Langdon population is OVER 5,000 people.
+ Development within the Area Structure Plan will bring the population to >13,000 people!
+ Langdon is YOUNG - over 30% of residents are UNDER age 16.
+ This population / demographic profile lends itself perfectly to building a multi-purpose recreation centre!
- Rocky View Schools has included a Langdon High School in the 2014-17 Three Year Capital Plan
"Is there land available to build a Recreation Centre?"
- The North Bow Community Facility Board (NBCFB) has jointly purchased land with RVC and Rocky View Schools.
- This land is known as the "Joint Use Site" or the "Langdon Community Campus"
- The purpose of this land is to build and develop a High School and other Recreational facilities.
- The LRC is working closely with the NBCFB to develop indoor recreation facilities on this land.
"Will the new facilities in South East Calgary affect demand in Langdon"
- The Langdon Recreation Centre Business Plan is based on a local demand scenario only, serving residents of Langdon and area (Langdon, Indus, Dalemead and rural).
- The amenities chosen for the LRC will not be affected by the SE Calgary Facilities.
"Can we build an aquatics centre?"
- While a swimming pool would be a welcome addition to our community, we just cannot support it at this time. Typically a population of 15,000 – 20,000 people is needed to sustain an aquatics centre. The last thing we want is to build facilities that are unsustainable, since this would impede future recreational growth. The LRC would like to see an aquatics centre as a future phase of development.
